May 09, 2023TAA DAAAA. I am back !!
Hello old friends. It's been a while (probably 3 weeks), but here I am again.
I set out with a mind to write a newsletter once a week, but like most things in the mind of an overachieving, mediocre talented person....that seemed to not be rooted in reality. But it's the thought that counts. right? So how about a new deal? I will try hard to be consistent and shoot for weekly but not be stressed when I can't get to it.
Seriously, I have a lot going on in life and at work.
- 2 Huge new products/ services with aggressive deadlines in my company
- Dissolution of one of my companies (insert sad face)
- Our last child in school is getting ready to graduate.
- Lastly, I just didn't know what to say. Nothing was HITTING me.
Those are decent reasons, right? I'm going with it. Argue with me later.
What in the world does all of this have to do with you and why do you care? I felt we could discuss that.
Too many "things"
It is safe to assume we all set BHAG's (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) often. Some more than others. It seems the world and life and its invisible hand has its palm planted directly into the middle of your back with this annoyingly determined and convincing voice pushing us to do more, work harder, and be something or someone maybe we don't even have the desire to be. Be better? Sure....but really knowing what we can do and what makes us happy.
The grind mentality might be just what some need, but I think it gasses many out. We all are probably guilty of being honest about our capacity and the absolute requirement our body and mind need for meaningful rest. That looks SOFT and we are made to feel guilty for not fulfilling big dreams. Often the dreams others have for us.
What I find is everyone has a great idea about what we should be doing. And if you dig into it...sometimes you might find it's something they want and cannot or will not do.
Find Balance
Suspend the ego and ask yourself really what you want, what you need, and what brings you joy. It is an unarguable fact that happy people are healthier and even achieve more. You cannot drive your engine to exhaustion and expect it to perform at its best.
Look at your goals and pretend you are one of the only people on this planet and no one else will be there to judge you. If you are surrounded by people not telling you to slow down when they certainly see you BURN OUT, then you don't need me to tell you to find new people. Because those will move along when you are spent.
Go Do Your Things
Trying to make more money? Why?
Trying to get more eyeballs for your business? Is your effort returning the desired outcome? Not everyone you are a dancing bear for will ever buy from you. So get sniper and not a shotgun.
Trying to be better? Keep that up. But make sure you quantify what better really is.
We think everyone is watching us, but that's our ego. Read Ego Is The Enemy. It changed me in a major way. No one is really watching you. They are doing their own hustle. Ignore that and watch what happens.
